Manufacturing
has always been an innovative and vital part of Connecticut’s economy. But over the years
the industry has changed dramatically from the “dirty shop floors” of the ‘50s
and ‘60s to one of advanced technology and high-end products. With the advances
in technology has come a greater need for well-educated and trained
professionals. Think we have enough skilled workers for this important sector
of our local economy? Think again. The good news for Connecticut
is manufacturing’s alive and well. However, due to the aging workforce and
significant changes in the skills required by the industry, the state faces a serious
challenge to supply a well qualified workforce in the numbers the sector
demands. With a number of programs at the public’s disposal, citizens can take
advantage of the many grants and educational opportunities that exist to enter
this high-skill, high-tech, high-wage industry. Manufacturing is no longer just
a job, but a great career” said Anthony Meliso, producer of the “work. learn.
live. (Connecticut)”
series.
Through the individual stories of everyday people in
professions that span the continuum of Connecticut’s
workforce, CPTV will examine the issues surrounding workforce development and
hear the inspirational stories of these people – in their own words - who have
found success pursuing the career of their dreams.
