Episode 3 - Health Care Industry

The third episode of work. learn. live. (connecticut) will examine the workforce readiness of the health care industry in Connecticut. It will discuss the various shortages the industry faces and learn what the state of Connecticut as well as local colleges and universities are doing to meet the need of this growing field.

"The need for qualified professionals in the field of health care is alarming and will only continue to grow as our population ages. There are a number of programs citizens can take advantage of if they have the desire to pursue one of the fast growing and most respected professions, health care. The vacancies in the nursing community are especially acute and the need for public-private partnerships has never been greater. The educational community has certainly responded to the challenge but it is still a race against time," said Anthony Meliso, producer of the "work. learn. live (connecticut)" series.

Through the individual stories of everyday people in professions that span the continuum of Connecticut's workforce, CPTV will examine the issues surrounding workforce development and hear the inspirational stories of these people - in their own words - who have found success obtaining the career of their dreams.

Future episodes of this series will examine precision manufacturing, biosciences, trade professions and other important industries. The needs of these particular sectors will be examined as well as solutions the state, businesses and educators are pursuing to make sure Connecticut's workforce is educated and prepared for tomorrow's demanding and ever changing work environment.
