As other states and nations compete more and more aggressively for corporations and skilled workers, Connecticut's approach to governance and cooperation is being challenged. Can the tried-and-true models of economic development, education and governance still work, or is a regional approach part of the solution?

Connecticut once held an enviable position of dominance in sophisticated business sectors such as aerospace, manufacturing, healthcare and the financial/insurance services. That economic stature has been eroding as other states and countries have become increasingly able to provide a well-educated, technology savvy workforce at competitive wages. Metropolitan Hartford and other regions of the state that relied on high-paying jobs rich in benefits to support the local economy and communities are losing ground.

Regionalism: A Commitment to Place explores the options Connecticut faces as it strives to reinvent itself for the new realities of the 21st century.
